Peter Ward discovered the joys of mixing wine and food as an international journalist. A former member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, Peter made some memorable trips, such as the one that included Rome, Istanbul, Tehran, Jerusalem, Nicosia and Cairo. There was always time for a little sightseeing, and always wine - everywhere there was wine to be sampled.
Later, Peter made a mid-life change and became a wine writer for several Canadian newspapers. Now he could spend more time sampling wines and visiting vineyards and their owners. At home he tried making his own wine, using the basement laundry tub and learning a lot in the process. He no longer makes his own wine.
In Don't Spit the Good Stuff, Peter shares many of his fascinating adventures abroad, while at the same time providing a wealth of information on grapes, grape growing, winemaking, and wines.
About the Author
Peter Ward has been happily learning about wine through a long career as a journalist covering everything from police stories to local, provincial, and federal politics, to events at international trouble spots. For twemty-nine years he wrote a weekly wine column for the Ottawa Citizen. He has written magazine articles on wine, and often leads wine tastings.
Peter lives in Ottawa with his wife, Jane, visiting as often as possible with his daughter Wendy and her family in Welland, and with sons Tim and Mark, who live, respectively, in Washington, D.C. and Orlando, Florida. Tim is the author of four books, so Dad simply had to do something.
