by Terrence Rundle West This award-winning collection of short stories about life in small-town Canada in the middle part of the last century teaches your students a little about Canada while they learn English. While listening to the recorded stories, students can follow along in their books. When they come across a word or idiom they don’t recognize, they can reference the accompanying vocabulary sheets. The workbook, including assignments for individuals or small groups, is perfect for reproducing for a number of students. About the book Run of the Town consists of 17 short stories which chronicle life in small-town Northern Ontario between 1940-1965. It was a different age—mothers stayed home, childhood diseases could be fatal, families were large, kids expected to do chores. As a result, kids had the run of the town and experienced close-up the events of their day as well as the world around them: German prisoners of war, displaced Japanese students from the west coast, French kids from the other side of town, the Cuban missile crisis, hobos. Through it all, the town residents worked with the churches and service clubs to keep the town civilized. Pricing 1-2 kits $40 each
